Katharine Hepburn's Famous Brownie Recipe

I have collected thousands of recipes, but I rarely make them.  They are filed away in my recipe "archives" which basically are a bunch of binders, folders and stacks of pages torn from magazines.  I've decided to start posting some of these recipes from my archives on this blog.

The first recipe is for "Katharine Hepburn's Famous Brownies."  Truthfully I have never heard of this recipe before and it is difficult to know whether or not it actually came from Katharine Hepburn.

This is not a traditional brownie recipe.  It is extremely sticky and it would be difficult to pick up and eat.  The consistency is more like pecan pie and it requires a plate and fork.  It is extremely thin, chewy and gooey, and the walnuts provide a nice crunch.

Katharine Hepburn's Famous Brownie Recipe

2 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts

Melt the chocolate and butter in a medium saucepan over low heat.  Remove from the heat and stir in the sugar.  Add the eggs and vanilla, and mix until smooth.

Add flour, salt and nuts.  Mix until smooth.

Pour into a prepared 8x8 pan.

Bake 325 degrees for 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
