10. Holiday Baked Apple Crisp
I do not usually think about apples during the Christmas holidays, but this is the perfect dessert to have baking in the oven when family and friends are visiting. The smell of apples and cinnamon make the house especially welcoming!
This recipe can be made up to a day ahead of time and then kept in the refrigerator until ready to bake. It is such a comforting dessert and a wonderful holiday treat! (You may want to double the recipe and eat the leftovers after a day of fun playing in the snow!)
Holiday Baked Apple Crisp
5 Apples, peeled and sliced (similar to apple pie)
1 1/2 teaspoons lemon juice
1 cup flour
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter, soft
Place the sliced apples in a deep dish pie plate. Sprinkle the lemon juice over the tops of the apple slices. In a bowl combine butter, salt, cinnamon, sugar and flour. Mix well.
Spoon the flour mixture on top of the apples and press down to seal.
Bake 350 degrees for one hour. Spoon the hot apples into individual bowls and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream.
Yum!
